Pacific Parrotlets
Parrotlets are the worlds smallest parrots. Even though they are smaller then a lovebird the have the personality of an african grey. There are multiple different types of parrotlets we only own Pacific Parrotlets. Many differnt color mutations exist in the pacific parrotlets of which we are attemping to acquire through selective breeding of possible gene carriers. The can be found in green, blue, yellow, and white and variations of. The boys can be easily recognised by the blue on the main flight feathers of the wings and the brighter blue streak above the eye. Boys also have a blue rump. Though in a subspecies of "lucida" parrotlets the girls will develop the blue on the rump. When hand raised the chicks are very tame and can be handled easily. These birds do tend to be territorial so they do not do as well in large flight cages and tend to do better in pairs or with the same sex in smaller cages. They can learn to talk and mimic whistles very easily. They are not loud birds but do chitter and bicker back and forth to each other.

Parrotlets being a very small bird can be a lot of fun. In 2007 we had a very good year in our breeding program with lots of babies and very few problems. 2008 however was a different story. We lots a lot of hens due to egg binding even with added calcium to the food and water. At the moment we only have one pair the Blue hen and the Yellow boy though they have remained inactive with breeding. In the future we hope to refocus our efforts on the Parrotlet breeding programs.
