Bird Toys
There lots of different bird toys that you can make or buy for your bird friend as cheap as a cardboard square or as expensive as a fancy wooden play gym. The range is size to color to type of material it is made of. Some make noise others reflect the birds image. The biggest key to any toys is that your bird likes it and it is safe to be with the bird. Rope toys tend to be easy and inexpensive though when they get older they frey and can be a stangling hazard to your bird. On rope toys you can have all sorts of toys such as beads, chewable cardboard figures, and bells. Some of these can be made using materials from your local craft store or if your not inventive (like me) you can buy them. Provide your bird with lots of different types of toys and a good rule to follow is have some of the toys in the cage and some put up for changing them out. Birds like my daughter get tired of the same old toy and sometimes quickly so when they tire of the toy or it becomes damage replace it with a different one that way they are always being entertained. Toys are ment to be broke so don't get to upset when your bird chews all the wooden wheels off the rope. That was the point of the toy to be played with just give them a new one and realise that it was made for that. Giving your bird plenty of toys keeps them from getting to curious about other things to destroy and finding a way to get to them such as curtains or clothes. It may also keep them busy from finding new ways to get out of thier cages because all the fun is inside the cage.
Swings are also a type of toy and can be plastic or wood or rope with toys hanging from them also. Most birds love swings and it can provide many hours everyday of joy and entertainment.
Also make sure the bird toy is the right size for your bird a large parrot sized toy however it may be fun might not be right for a small parakeet.
Play Gyms
Play Gyms are great for bird exercise. It allows the bird out of the cage to be able to wander on their little area and play and be active and stretch thier wings. Toys can be hung from them and food and water dishes placed on them. This is a great place to give your birds treats and have a place that they feel comfortable to be handled. You can make your own or buy them ranging from $10.00 to hundreds of dollars depending on you and your birds needs.
Ladders
Ladders are great for all sizes of birds. They can climb up and down on them all day and get to places easier in some of the larger cages. Normally you will find them made of wood and sometimes you can get them in different colors.
