Bird Cages
Bird cages come in many different styles, colors and types. Selecting the one that is best for your bird and you is very important. I tend to stay with square cages or rectangle cages for me because I can place bird safe plants or playgyms on top of the cage for the birds to get out, play and stretch on. Giving your bird plenty of room for what it requires is vital to keeping a happy healthy friend. The bird should be able to fly around or hop if the wings are clipped without obsticles. There should be plenty of room for hanging toys and other accessories. As far as how big some people have some set minimums which is great but the bigger the better in my mind. As long as the bird can't climb through the bars and can get around then great. Think of the location the cage will be in at your house when selecting it. Will it be on it's own stand? or on a counter? Keep it away from doors and heaters so the area will have a fairly standard temperature. Near windows is good because the bird can get some direct sunlight if it wants to bask in the warmth. When placing the cage think about clean up by making sure you can get to all sides to clean dust, seed, and waste. Ensure you can slide the waste tray out easily without spilling. Depending on the bird depends on whether you need a cage that latches. Some birds like love birds are curious and will try to get out or tip thier water and seed trays creating quiet a mess. The color is important because do you want your bird to be visible and stand out or blend in with the color of the cage bars.
So when you pick the birds new home try and pick wisely based on the birds and your needs.
As an example the cage below to the left would work great for a lovebird. It latches closed and the food and water dish are latched in place also. There is room for toys and accessories and the white color would bring out the bright colors or the bird.
The picture on the bottom right would work great for a parakeet or a couple parakeets. It has plenty of room for toys and hanging treats. It provides enough room for the birds to fly around and be active while awake.
The picture in the middle would work great for a cockatiel or a pair of cockatiels. It is picture with a stand which works great for raising the cage up to provide easier access and no need for a table top.
